An arrested man’s death is reported from Thrippunithura, Kochi. Manoharan (53) of Thrippunithura is the victim. People in the area say that Manoharan was chased by the police as he did not stop the two-wheeler when he was asked to. The police caught hold of him and brought him to the police station. It is reported that he was beaten up there. The incident occurred around 9 pm on March 25, 2023.

Manoharan collapsed at the police station and was taken to the Government hospital in the area and then to a private hospital, where he breathed his last. Thrippunithura Hill Palace Police station sub-inspector Jimmy Jose has been suspended. Ernakulam District Crime Branch Deputy Superintendent of Police is entrusted with the responsibility to investigate. Now, the reports suggest that he was not drunk; but, fear was reported to be the reason for not stopping the vehicle.

Workers of the BJP and Congress are besieging the police station in protest. Several allegations were heard about the custodial deaths since the CPM-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) Government of CM Pinarayi Vijayan took over. But, all were established to be natural deaths and had nothing to do with any torture. But, there are people who allege that the inquiries were conducted by the police force itself.
