On March 23, 2023, the Delhi court framed charges against former Aam Admi Party (AAP) leader Tahir Hussain and ten other in a case relating to the death of former IB officer Ankit Sharma in Delhi Riots of February 2020. During the Anti-Hindu riots, the dead body of Sharma was recovered from a drain in Delhi. Tahir has been framed under charges of kidnapping and murder.

A bench at the Kakardooma court observed that Tahir and ten of his accomplice were involved in the murder of Sharma. The bench while framing the charges said, “Tahir was continuously acting in a manner of supervising & motivating this mob. All these things were done to target Hindus. Every member of the mob assembled there participated in achieving the objective of targeting Hindus.”

Notably, all ten accused including Tahir have been booked under IPC sections 147 (rioting), 148 (guilty of rioting), 153A (assembles in place of worship), 302 (murder), 365 (kidnapping), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 149 (persecution of common object) & 188 (disobedience to public servant) of the Indian Penal Code. Tahir Hussain was additionally charged under IPC sections 104 (causing harm to other’s death),109 (punishment of abetment) & 505 (assembling at a place of worship).

In October 2020, the court taking cognizance of the chargesheet filed by the ED, stated that there was prima facie sufficient incriminating material to show the involvement of Hussain and co-accused Amit Gupta in these offences. Later Gupta was granted bail by the court in 2022.

With Hussain the accused booked include Haseen, Nazim, Kasim, Sameer Khan, Anas, Firoz, Javed, Gulfam, Shoaib Alam and Muntajim.

The agency arrested Hussain on August 31, 2020, to probe allegations that he, along with other persons, had laundered about ₹1.10 crore by using shell companies to fuel the protests against the CAA and the Delhi riots. Police have maintained that the riots were planned at the anti-CAA protest sites in northeast Delhi.

These protests were followed by communal riots in the capital on February 24, 2020 after clashes between CAA supporters and opposers spiralled out of control, leaving at least 53 people dead and more than 400 injured.

Even after sufficient pieces of evidence against Hussain the left-wing leaders, speakers, self-proclaimed activists, Bollywood actors and so-called ‘Journalists’ supported Hussain. Some of their tweets are listed below:

Indian singer, songwriter and music composer Vishal Dadlani said, “Let’s be very clear. Tahir Hussain is the guy that “they” are trying to blame for rioting and violence. Many of you have also bought that narrative.

BUT…ask yourself…why would HE call the Police 5 times?

Let the public hear those calls!! That will clarify a LOT!”

Controversial filmmaker Anurag Kashyap who recently made a film promoting ‘Love Jihad’ (Almost pyar with DJ Mohabbat)from his official Twitter handle wrote, “Claim by Delhi Police: conspiracy of Riots hatched on Jan 8 by @UmarKhalidJNU, @KSaifi
& Tahir Hussain to coincide with Trump’s Feb visit.

Fact: News that Trump may come to India was first announced tentatively only on 13 Jan”

Sanjukta Basu, a journalist quoted Tweet by Priti Gandhi and wrote, “Meanwhile terrorist Pragya is sitting in Parliament.”

Sanjukta further added, “What gives BJP the right to call #UmarKhalid terrorist when they don’t call #SadhviPragya a terrorist? Both are accused. Rather, Umar is not even accused because chargesheet not filed yet. Pragya have been chargesheeted.”

Journalist Rana Ayyub who is known to defame country at global platforms from her official twitter handle wrote, “Tahir Hussain arrested. Kapil Mishra gets Y plus security, Anurag Thakur is free, no one seeking accountability from Amit Shah, Modi is being celebrated. We call this majority privilege”

Bollywood actress Swara Bhasker who recently married Samajwadi activist Fahad Zirar Ahmad under the special marriage Act, quoting a video of Hussain wrote, “Investigation on #TahirHussain ‘s role should admit this video as well..
@AltNews have you seen this? Is it verified??”

Propaganda media network Alt News’s radical founder Mohammad Zubair has as many as six FIRs against him and is out on bail also supported Hussain. Zubair has been booked under Section 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of the IPC and section 67 of the Information Technology Act. After he shared former Bhartiya Janta Party spokesperson Nupur Sharma’s video alleging blasphemy lead to as many as three murders (sar tan se juda) and four brutal attacks.

Zubair supporting Tahir’s video wrote, “Several social media users have raised doubts about the authenticity of AAP councillor Tahir Hussain’s video appeal for help during #DelhiRiot2020. Read #AltNewsFactCheck.”

In this piece Alt News fact-checked that, “Alt News spoke with AAP spokesperson Deepak Bajpai who informed that Hussain had sent him the video on February 24. According to a WhatsApp chat between the duo, the video was shared on February 24 at 6:44 pm.”

Alt News, which claims to be a fact-checking website supports radial, fugitive and anti-Hindu sentiments and its founder is known for spreading hatred against Hindus.

Writer, poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar wrote, “So many killed , so many injured , so many house burned , so many shops looted so many people turned destitutes but police has sealed only one house and looking for his owner . Incidentally his name is Tahir . Hats off to the consistency of the Delhi police .”

In a media statement AAP leader Sanjay Singh defended Hussain and said, “In a statement, Singh claimed, “Tahir Hussain has already given his statement in which he said that he gave all details to police and media about mob entering his house during the violence. He had asked the police for protection. The police came eight hours late and rescued him and his family from his house.”

He further alleged, “The police helped him and (his) family to get out of his house. They were not there for 2 days. When they were not in the house, the question on stones and all should not arise at all.”

In a media interview Hussain also claimed that he sought help from Singh during the riots.

It is noteworthy that how some infringe elements first started the Ant-CAA-NRC protest which later took shape of Anti-Hindu riot in Delhi. There were targeted attacks on Hindus and their houses, shops were vandalised, temples were plundered and hundreds lost their lives. Still, the so-called intellectuals, communists and hate-mongerers support these culprits as only this suits their agenda.
