NEW DELHI: In a startling account from the ongoing NEET protests in the national capital, a 17-year-old NEET aspirant has claimed that the demonstration has been overtaken by unruly elements, prompting her to withdraw from the agitation over fears for her safety and future.
Rushi Mehra, who identified herself as a NEET student, announced that she was leaving the protest, alleging that genuine students were being overshadowed by what she described as “goons” and warning fellow aspirants against risking their careers by remaining at the site.
“This is my last day at the protest. I am going back home. I can’t do this anymore. There are literally five goons around every genuine student,” she said.

Recounting an incident that she said deeply disturbed her, Rushi claimed that she and her siblings had previously befriended a Delhi Police officer deployed at the protest site. According to her, the officer had earlier assured them that they could approach him if they ever faced any difficulty.
She alleged that despite the officer merely asking people to move aside during the protest, a group of around 10 to 15 individuals suddenly attacked him. “Last night, he didn’t even have a stick in his hand. He was just asking everyone to move aside. Suddenly, 10–15 goons attacked him and shouted, ‘Tujhe bhi Ratan Lal banayenge,'” she alleged.
Rushi further claimed that she initially did not understand the significance of the slogan. However, after searching online, she learned that Head Constable Ratan Lal of the Delhi Police was killed during the 2020 Delhi riots.
“We were shocked. When we searched on Google, we found that Ratan Lal was a police officer who lost his life during a riot in 2020,” she said.
The student further alleged that those leading the protest were aware of the presence of disruptive elements but had failed to take any action. “The most shocking part is that even the people leading the protest know about this but they are not doing anything,” she claimed.
Expressing concern about her future, Rushi said she had decided to leave the protest rather than risk becoming caught up in violence or legal complications. “I want a career and I don’t want to get into any trouble. If you are a student, just get out of this facade. Otherwise, you could end up ruining your career along with these goons,” she said.
