On March 8, Dr Sumedha Sharma, d/o Kamal Kishore Sharma and resident of Jammu’s Talab Tillo, was allegedly murdered by her male friend, Johar Ganai s/o Mehmood Ganai and resident of Jammu’s Janipur, Daily Excelsior reported.

Janipur Police received a phone call from Johar Ganai’s relative about his Facebook post stating that he is committing suicide as he is fed up with life. Thus, a team of Janipur Police officials led by SHO Inspector Vijay Kumar reached Johar Ganai’s house.

The Janipur Police team broke into the house and found Johar Ganai in critical condition with stab injuries, along with the 26-year-old Dr Sumedha Sharma’s lying alongside with stab injuries to her abdomen, their sources said.

“The body of the girl and the accused was immediately rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu where the accused is still admitted in ICU as his condition was stated to be critical. However, the body of the deceased girl was handed over to her family after completing all medico-legal formalities,” their sources said.

The Janipur Police registered a case u/s 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code and started an investigation. “In initial investigation, it came to fore that the deceased doctor and the accused were close friends, and both were in love for quite some time. Both had done their BDS from Dental College Seohra in Jammu and the girl was pursuing her MDS from a college outside J-K,” their sources added.

“It also came to fore that the deceased girl came on Holi vacation and went straight to the accused person’s house where they had a fight with each other over some issue and in a fit of rage, the accused stabbed to death Dr Sumedha with a kitchen knife and later tried to commit suicide by stabbing himself also,” their sources added.

Earlier, Aftab Amin Poonawalla was arrested for allegedly killing his 28-year-old live-in partner, Shraddha Walkar, over his affair with other girls and chopping her body into 35 pieces and disposing of them at different places in and around the national capital.

According to the charge sheet, Aftab said, “Shraddha learnt that I had affairs with other girls. She came to know that I used to talk to other girls on Bumble app which led to arguments between us. She had known that I was cheating on her but as we used to drink together, we would solve our issues.”

As per the chargesheet, he confessed that he “wanted to get rid of her habit of hurling abuses and decided to kill her. I pushed her on the floor and sat on her chest. I pressed her throat until she died. I chopped her body into pieces and packed it into bags.”

Furthermore, Sahil Gahlot was arrested for the murder of Nikki Yadav and after sustained interrogation he confessed to killing her around 9 a.m. on February 10, 2023. He further told the Delhi Police that he strangulated Nikki with a data cable, propped her body in the car’s front seat and continued to drive around the Delhi-NCR region for another 40 kilometres.

Sahil kept Nikki’s body in the car at the time of his marriage and then went to stuff the body in his dhaba’s refrigerator on the outskirts of Mitraon village in Delhi’s Najafgarh area. This incident was brought to light on Valentine’s Day (February 14, 2023) when Nikki’s body was recovered from the dhaba’s refrigerator.
