Guwahati: Five persons involved in anti-national activities were arrested by Nagaon and Morigaon police in the middle of Assam on March 7 in a joint operation. On intel provided by Intelligence Bureau (IB), the Assam police identified ten persons supplying Indian military and security information to Pakistan over the phone.

On March 7, a police team conducted a daylong operation to nab the informers of the Pakistani agents. A police team arrested 5 Pakistani informers from Nagaon and Morigaon districts. But five informers fled before police could nab them. The arrested informers were identified as Ashiqul Islam, Badaruddin Ali, Mizanur Rahman and Wahidur Zaman of Nagaon district and Baharul Islam of Morigaon district. The police team recovered 18 mobile phones, 136 SIM cards, one fingerprint-operated scanner, one CPU and various objectionable documents from the possession of the arrested informers. Police also recovered one dual IMEI number mobile handset from the possession of the detained Ashiqul Islam.

Police sources said the gang sent security information to the Pakistani agents via WhatsApp using the dual IMEI mobile handset. This gang also provided SIM cards to Pakistani agents in India. They provided Indian army-related information to their Pakistani agents. Assam police conducted the operation after getting confirmed intel from the Intelligence Bureau (IB). Search operations are on across the state to nab the remaining five informers still at large. Police sources said that the whole modus operandi of the arrested spy gang would come to know in the police interrogation.

On February 25, Assam police arrested three cyber criminals with huge numbers of SIM cards and mobile phones. The arrested cyber criminals were Ishaque Ali, Rabbul Islam and Giyas Uddin.

A total of 1,720 SIM cards, a Pulsar bike bearing registration number AS-02A-H5609 and 11 mobile phones have been seized from their possession.
