In a swift operation in the neighbouring Telangana, the Maharashtra police arrested a Maoist couple from Gachibowli of Hyderabad on February 20. As per the reports, the development occurred when a team of Gadchiroli police nabbed Madhukar Kodape, aka Thuge (42) and his wife, Jamani Mangalu Punam, aka Shamala (35) and took them to Gadchiroli.

It’s been learnt that the arrested couple were working in a security agency and a car showroom, respectively; they have also made fake identity cards to evade their arrest, said SP Gadchiroli Neelotpal.

The duo left the proscribed CPI Maoist in 2006 and has been absconding since then. One of them, Madhukar, has a total of 25 cases pending against him in different police stations of Gadchiroli, while a total of 9 cases including murder are pending against his wife Shamala, we have been looking for them for long, and the arrest is made possible due to solid, reliable information, they are being interrogated, added SP Gadchiroli.

It’s been reported that Madhukar was a seasoned Maoist and had been assigned with many significant roles within the Maoist group, the duo also carried a reward of Rs 10 lakhs.

IEDs recovered from Mulugu

In other news, the security forces in Mulugu of Telangana recovered and diffused an improvised explosive device (IED) on February 20. According to the information received, the IED was recovered near Pamunuru village of Venkatapuram Mandal.

It’s been reported that the Mulugu police had got a secret intel about IEDs being planted in the Venkatapuram region of the district, following which a search operation has been launched in the area.

It’s been learnt that when the team reached the forest near Pumunuru village, they recovered and diffused the planted IED with the help of the bomb disposal unit, a small amount of gunpowder and copper foil were also recovered from the spot. It was learnt that the IRS was planted with a view to harm security personnel visiting the area.
