The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a charge sheet against two overground Workers of the proscribed Communist Party of India -Maoists in connection with the illegal funding to revive the Magadh Zone of the organisation.

Two overground workers of the CPI-Maoists, Pradyumn Sharma and Tarun Kumar, both residents of Rustampur village in Jehanabad of Bihar, have been named in the chargesheet filed in a special NIA court of Ranchi on January 20, read the statement issued by the investigative agency on January 22.

The prime accused, Pradyumn Sharma, was arrested in August 2021 along with Tarun Kumar and has been charged with various sections of the IPC and Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

In the chargesheet filed, NIA has further elaborated that the accused were in constant touch with several seasoned Maoists lodged in various jails and other overground workers of the outlawed outfit; they had hatched a conspiracy to revive the organisation in the Magadh belt of Bihar.

The accused, along with other overground workers, were conspiring to revive the Magadh zone of the proscribed CPI-Maoists, for which a lot of extortion money has been collected through the contractors and routed through various channels to execute the plan.

Along with raising funds for the procurement of arms and ammunition, the accused also organised training camps for their fellow cadres to train them in improvised explosives devices (IED).

It should be noted that the NIA had suo-moto registered the case in December 2021, following which the agency raided several hideouts of the Over Ground Workers of the outlawed group.

Maoist surrender in Munger

In another Maoists-related development, a hardcore communist terrorist of the banned CPI- Maoist surrendered before the Munger police in Bihar on January 23.

The surrendered Maoist has been identified as Suraj Murmu, a resident of Roradih under Kharagpur police station limits of insurgency-hit Munger; he was wanted in a total of nine arson cases, loot, kidnapping and extortion in Jamui, Lakhisarai and Munger.

Suraj Murmu

“I wanted to live a life of dignity and honour by joining the mainstream, ” said Suraj, citing the Maoist’s ideology as hollow.

The surrender took place in the presence of Sanjay Kumar, Commissioner Munger range and other decorated officers from the CRPF and SSB, in which Suraj laid down his automatic SLR rifle along with 28 cartridges.

It’s a welcome move, and others who the extremist group brainwashed should also follow his footsteps; he will be rehabilitated per the Government’s rehabilitation policy, said Sanjay Kumar.
