Guwahati: If you think that only eligible Indian voters can vote to form governments in India, you are probably wrong. A huge network is actively working in Assam to make doubtful voters and illegal intruders genuine voters in India. Such a huge racket was busted by Assam police in Barpeta district on Monday. This racket is involved in making fake voter ID cards and providing it to doubtful voters (declared doubtful voters or D voters by the Foreigners Tribunal in Assam) and illegal intruders against deceased voters of the locality. The mastermind of the racket is Faruk Khan. Barpeta police arrested Faruk Khan on a complaint of the district election officer. Barpeta DEO Mairakshi Dutta informed that no D voter is issued a voter ID card until his or her case is settled in the Foreigners Tribunal. But this racket is supplying fake voter ID cards to hundreds of D voters and illegal intruders. After the complaint by the DEO, Barpeta police raided three places in the district. Police arrested another two persons involved in the fake voter ID racket. They have been identified as Abul Ali and Jahedul Islam of Jania in Barpeta district. Barpeta police station incharge Ranjan Dole informed that

the Booth Level Officer (BLO) of Polling Station No.149 of village Chapra as well as local public under 44-Jania LA Constituency one person namely Faruk Khan has tampered the process of Electoral Roll by providing false Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) against the voters marked as “D” through the office namely “D Voter Manch, Assam”. Police recovered 262 numbers of fake voter ID cards, laptop, printing machines and two computers from their possession. High level police sources told that there is a huge racket working with this module in the state. The racket is providing face voter ID cards to the D voters and illegal intruders active mainly in the minority populous areas of Lower Assam. Investigations are on to bust the entire fake voter ID racket in the state.
