News coming out from Kerala Police suggest that an officer has been suspended for alleged links with outlawed Islamic terrorist outfit, Popular Front of India (PFI). According to the reports from Pothanikkad Police Station House Officer (SHO), Ernakulam, District Police Chief (DPC) suspended C.A. Siyad, Civil Police Officer (CPO) for his alleged links with PFI. The order said it is immediate suspension pending investigation. The order carries several allegations against him such as negligence of duties, indiscipline and failure to carry out duties. The order read, these allegations tarnished the image of the police force and the loss of people’s faith in the force. A DySP is assigned to enquire into the allegations and report with recommendations within a fortnight.

The report states that Siyad tried to meet PFI men at Perumbavoor Police Station, Ernakulam district, where they were detained in connection with PFI hartal of September 23 and related violence. He is also alleged to have attempted to intervene in the issue sans informing his superiors. It is reported that he called up several police officers to find out the details of the case, arrests and the chances of bail for the accused. It was in the wake of the offences they were charged with. The charges were under Indian Penal Code and Prevention of Damage To Public Property Act for violent acts, that is, damaging buses including the illegal lightning hartal engineered by PFI in protest against the nation-wide raids in PFI offices and houses of its leaders and also their arrests. It is also stated that Siyad repeatedly contact PFI men after finding out their contact information from his phone. He appeared to be too much enthusiastic in interaction with PFI blokes despite his knowledge that they were charged with UAPA and some of them for murder. The report further alleges that Siyad received WhatsApp pictures of the murder of BJP leader Renjith Sreenivasan in Alappuzha in December, 2021. Renjith was allegedly killed by men of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), the political arm of PFI.

Hindu and nationalist organisations and their leaders have been alleging since long that Islamic forces have got powerful presence in Kerala Police. One police man had been sacked in Thodupuzha for leaking details of RSS and BJP leaders to PFI. Pachavelicham (green light), a pro PFI WhatsApp Group, has been active within the force. But, both ruling CPM-led Left Democratic Front and Congress-led Opposition United Democratic Front have been suffering cold feet in handling the terrorist issues as they were keen to exploit minority vote bank.
