Guwahati: Assam and North East have been a place of attraction for illegal Bangladeshi and Bangladeshi criminals for a long. Of late, Jihadi elements from Bangladesh are making the Northeastern part of India a breeding ground to spread Jihad. State police have busted several modules of Jihadi activities that directly connect with Bangladesh. A most wanted terrorist from Bangladesh, Faizal Ahmed, the main accused in Sylhet blogger Ananta Vijoy Das’s murder case in 2015, has been apprehended by Kolkata police from Bangalore recently. He is convicted for capital punishment in Bangladesh for killing blogger Ananta Vijoy Das.

As per the sources of police, terrorist Faizal absconded after the murder of the blogger Ananta Vijoy in 2015 and was residing in Silchar in Assam. He entered Assam through the Karimganj border in southern Assam and engaged as a teacher in a local madrassa. During his stay in Silchar, Faizal Ahmed organised a sleeper cell for the Bangaladesh base terrorist organisation Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT). Assam police have recently busted a huge module of ABT in the Barpeta district of the state and arrested at least 16 Jihadis from various places. The ABT is also known as the Bangladesh chapter of Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS). What more strange is that during his stay in Silchar in Assam, terrorist Faizal Ahmed managed to acquire an Indian passport and driving licence. Faizal showed his home address as Lengpui in Mizoram. With this fake address and forged documents, he obtained an Indian driving licence and an Indian passport from Passport Seva Kendra in Guwahati. After obtaining the Indian passport in the name of Sahid Mazumdar, Faizal shifted to Bengaluru and stayed there. On 1st July Kolkata STF arrested Faizal from Bengaluru on an intimation of Bangladesh police. He was brought to Kolkata for further investigation. Republic TV reported that Assam police would also seek to interrogate Faizal in Kolkata police custody.

Meanwhile, Assam police on Thursday arrested two persons for their involvement in Jihadi activity in the Barpeta district. The arrested persons are Mukaddaz Ali Ahmed and Safiqul Islam. Police recovered three handmade bombs, three detonators and three explosive Neogene from the custody of Mukaddaz Ali Ahmed. Arrested Safiqul Islam was involved with Bangladesh-based terrorist organisation JMB. He was arrested in 2019 but escaped due to a lack of evidence. But after escaping from police custody, he was again involved in Jihadi activity.
