New Delhi: An online petition has been launched on Change.org, demanding impeachment of Supreme Court judges, Justice Surya Kant and Justice J B Pardiwala. On July 5, an individual named Vikas Pandey started the petition campaign addressing the members of the Parliament. The petition urged the parliamentarians to initiate Impeachment Proceedings against Justice Surya Kant and Justice JB Pardiwala for their controversial oral remarks against former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma.

“We, the citizens of India, are concerned about the recent developments in the country, especially the recent hearing in the case of Ms. Nupur Sharma before the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. Ms. Nupur Sharma had appeared before the Highest Court of law with the prayer that several criminal cases and FIRs which are lodged against her in various States should be clubbed together and transferred to Delhi. She also stated that she was receiving threats of molestation, rape and death by the radical Islamist forces,” reads the petition.

The petition alleged that when the matter was taken up by both the Judges of the Supreme Court on 01.07.2022, without even going into the facts of the case and without considering the death and rape threats to this young lady, they made observations accusing Nupur Sharma of being single handedly responsible for setting the entire country on fire and indirectly held her responsible for the unfortunate killing at Udaipur.

“Such shocking statements have been relied upon by the radical Islamist forces and anti-India forces like Taliban and by national and international media to show Hindus and our country in poor light. Supreme Court judges have acted irresponsibly and without any material on record, made such statements which are not only unconstitutional but also against the values and ethos of this great nation. We seek your support for impeachment of these two judges,” the petition stated.

So far, the petition has received more than 35000 signatures, nearing the target of 50,000 signatures.

“I am signing this petition because the two judges here bypassed the whole legal process and pronounces a sort of judgement making a mockery of the whole judicial process. These judges are biased and they cannot impart justice as directed by the constitution,” a user named Priyank Jain said in a comment.

“Absolute power invites absolute corruption. The judiciary should not behave like spokesperson of political parties. Great power comes with great responsibility,” noted another signatory.
