Guwahati: Unlike the Brahmaputra valley, the Barak localities are still facing the flood furies, and many parts of Silchar continue to be inundated till Tuesday. State minister Jayanta Mallabaruah visited the Cachar district’s headquarters and reviewed the Barak valley’s flood situation.
According to the State disaster management authority, most rivers are currently flowing under the danger level, and 21 lakh people in 22 districts still suffer from the current wave of floods. Half of the affected families are taking shelter in administration-run relief camps. The casualty because of floods and incidents of landslides in different parts of the State rises to 134.
Cachar district magistrate Keerthi Jalli informed that Silchar had remained under the flood water for over a week. Besides food items and medicines, the affected families are being supplied with water packets and also water purifying tablets. The administration has also surveyed the most affected areas in the town for further courses of action. The mission to clean up Silchar has also been adopted.
Appreciating the district administration, minister Mallabaruah directed the PHE officials to continue building temporary toilets in affected localities. He also suggested supplying baby food items to needy families. In the presence of Parliamentarian Rajdeep Roy, legislators Dipayan Chakravarty, Kaushik Rai and Mihir Kanti Shome, Mallabaruah also advised the NDRF teams to transport relief items to the stranded families.
State chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited many flood-affected localities in western Assam on Tuesday. Along with State minister Ranjeet Kumar Das, Sarma interacted with the affected families in the Patacharkuchi area of the Bajali district. Paying a visit to some relief camps, Sarma assured all possible support to the people in their post-flood rehabilitation process.
