Guwahati: The second wave of deadly floods has devastated many parts of Assam. Over 11 lakh people in 25 districts of Assam have been affected by the flood. 1702 revenue villages are under flood water, as per the state disaster management authority report. Eight people have lost their lives in one of the most devastating floods Assam has witnessed in the past several years.
Insistent rain that occurred in the last few days has raised the water level of most rivers, including the mighty Brahmaputra in the state. Huge water flow from the hills of Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Bhutan have further raised the water level of the rivers.
The District administration has set up 150 relief camps where 60 thousand flood-affected people have taken shelter.
IMD has predicted continuous rain in most parts of the states in the next 24 hours. The state government has issued a red alert and asked the district administration to continue the relief and evacuation drive.
A total of 20139 hectares of cropland is also affected in the current wave of floods, whereas 31 lakhs domestic animals are affected.
On the other hand capital city, Guwahati is also under flash floods for the last four days. Water lodging has paralysed the city’s life, as several parts of the city are under flood water. The District administration has provided relief in the affected areas and shifted the people to the relief camps from landslide porn areas.
