Jewellery shops selling gold jewellery of religious symbols related to Hindus and Buddhism have been shut down in Kuwait
A jewellery shop in Salmiya has been shut down for violating the country’s laws. According to the ministry of commerce, Gold ornaments with Buddhist symbols have been banned in Kuwait. However, ornaments with ‘holy cross’ can be sold at jewellery shops because it’s one of the three Semitic religions that preach ‘monotheism’. The precious metals department of the Commerce Ministry said that selling ornaments with Buddhist symbols have been banned because Buddhism is a non-Semitic religion.
Violations include displaying and selling counterfeit gold crafts of famous international brands, Issuing invoices in a language other than Arabic, and Displaying and selling items with illegal religious symbols. Violations were also registered for not keeping the customer’s data in the purchase invoice and issuing manual non-electronic invoices. The shop was also not keeping daily buying and selling records, added the ministry of commerce.
