Hand Grenade found near DND flyway in Delhi, defused by NSG squad

A hand grenade was discovered in Delhi’s Yamuna Khadar neighbourhood on Saturday night, scaring residents. In the Mayur Vihar Police Station area, the grenade was discovered submerged in water in the Hindon canal under the DND flyover.

The incident was reported to the Delhi police, who dispatched a squad to the scene to investigate. The National Security Guard (NSG) was dispatched to defuse the device shortly after.

The hand grenade was discovered in an earthen pot by divers scouring the riverbed for coins, according to the police. Mayur Vihar’s ACP and SHO were dispatched to investigate after obtaining information about the incident. They were accompanied by a number of Delhi Police officials. Simultaneously, the NSG team was summoned, and the explosive was defused.

According to the police, the grenade appeared to be old. An FIR has been registered under Explosives Substance Act, officials said.

Earlier Hand grenades found in the Mohammadpur area

This is not the first time an explosive has been found in Delhi. Earlier on April 25, police received information about suspicious items like hand grenades found in the Mohammadpur area of ​​South Delhi. Delhi Police cordoned off the area and a bomb squad team was called to investigate the matter.

Earlier, during a Delhi Police Special Cell search operation, an IED was discovered in a residence in the Seemapuri area. It was hidden inside a suspicious bag in a packet. A bag of explosives containing a mixture of RDX and ammonium nitrate was also discovered in the Ghazipur Phool Mandi region of Delhi prior to this. It was roughly 3 kilogrammes in weight.
