An Islamist outfit, The Minorities Democratic Party in Nagpur district has issued death threats to the former spokesperson of BJP Nupur Sharma, for her reference to Muhammad, the founder of Islam. While speaking at a press meet organised by the MDP, an Islamic leader, Mohammad Hamid said that Sharma had committed a ‘crime’ by speaking against the Prophet and that she deserves the punishment of death.

Mohammad Hamid, the president of Iman Tanjeem, an Islamic group, was addressing at a news conference arranged by MDP in Nagpur. Sharma, he claimed, had signed a suicide note by ‘attacking the character’ of Prophet. “For this ‘crime,’ there is only one punishment: death. Kamlesh Tiwari was killed five years after making derogatory remarks about the Prophet Mohammad. He was stabbed to death. Don’t expect to be forgiven (Sharma). He threatened, “Never meddle with the 1100 volt current.”

On June 4, members of the Minorities Democratic Party (MDP) organised a rally in Nagpur against Sharma, demanding that she should be sentenced to death. They also hurled slogans like, ‘Huzur ki Shaan me gustakhi karne wale ko maafi nahi (no forgiveness to those who speak against the Prophet).’ Hundreds of Islamists who attended the MDP rally in the city chanted “Nupur Sharma Murdabad.”

It must be noted that the MDP isn’t the only one who has threatened Sharma’s life, claiming she’ll die the same way Kamlesh Tiwari did. According to a video shared by prominent activist Anshul Saxena, Islamists and their sympathisers were openly telling the media that Nupur Sharma will face the same fate as Kamlesh Tiwari.

Who was Kamlesh Tiwari?

Kamlesh Tiwari, a former Hindu Mahasabha leader, was stabbed to death in his home in 2019 for remarks he made in 2015 about Muhammad. He had been savagely stabbed and shot inside his own home by two Islamists who had devised an elaborate strategy to masquerade themselves as Hindu males and had succeeded in meeting him in October 2019.
