A 13-year-old Dalit girl, who was gang-raped by Nadeem and his goons, died on Friday morning (June 2) while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Chitrakoot.

Atul Sharma, Superintendent of Police, Chitrakoot told PTI that the girl was gang-raped on Wednesday when she was sleeping with her family outside her house.

Police said Nadeem, and the other accused were detained on Saturday and are being interrogated, reported The Indian Express.

The victim’s family said one of the accused entered the house and abducted the minor girl when they were sleeping outside. The police said that the accused covered the girl’s mouth to stop her from screaming.

The family told the police that they started looking for the girl after she was found missing and later found her in a field in an unconscious state, with her hands tied.

Police said the girl was taken home, where she regained consciousness and told what happened to her. She was then taken to Kaushambi hospital, where she died while receiving treatment.

The police told PTI that they received an autopsy on Saturday, which also confirmed that the girl was raped. The girl’s post mortem report also confirmed that the girl died due to strangulation.

The Indian Express reported that the girl died early Friday morning while undergoing treatment. The girl’s body was taken to Chitrakoot, where the family filed an FIR against the accused and the contractor, who refrained the family from filing an FIR.

Police said the girl may have received immediate treatment if the contractor didn’t stop the family from filing a complaint.

The local police have charged the accused under sections 304, 342, and 376D of the Indian Penal Code. They are also charged under the SC/ST Act and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POSCO).
