Kanpur Violence: UP Police booked 24 rioters under NSA; PFI link will also be investigated

Kanpur Police Commissioner Vijay Singh Meena has held a press conference after the arrest of Hayat Zafar Hashmi, the main accused in the violence that took place on June 3, 2022 (Friday) Kanpur, UP. During this press conference held on June 4, 2022 (Saturday), he said that the accused had taken shelter on a YouTube channel in Lucknow. Along with this, he has also announced to get their bank accounts checked by imposing NSA on the accused involved in the violence. The rioters are also feared to be associated with PFI.

According to IPS Vijay Singh Meena, “Gangster and NSA will be imposed on the accused involved in the violence. The properties of the accused will be confiscated. A total of 24 people have been arrested since yesterday. Bank accounts of those detained will be checked. Their linkage with PFI or any other organization will also be investigated. Police remand for 14 days will be taken after producing all of them in the court. In the interrogation so far, the accused have given the names of their 5-6 associates.

Police Commissioner Kanpur further said, “After the violence, the accused had fled the city. We got information about this, but we continued our search. All the accused were hidden in the YouTube office of a news channel in Lucknow after the FIR was registered. Hayat Zafar has been arrested from the Hazratganj area of ​​Lucknow. Police raided there and arrested all of them. Half a dozen mobile phones and some documents have been recovered from them. Checking phone and documents

Commissioner Vijay Singh Meena further said, “We have got some links related to PFI. PFI had made a few calls of 3-6 in Manipur and West Bengal. We have got this information that there is also any link between the accused of Kanpur with PFI. We are checking on this. Sometime back 5 people of PFI were involved in CAA violence which we are also investigating. If their involvement is found, strict action will be taken against them. We are looking for a funding source for the accused
