New Delhi: JMM on Monday (May 30) left Congress furious by announcing a Rajya Sabha candidate on its own for a seat that the Congress might have hoped would come into its kitty.
AICC in charge of Jharkhand, Avinash Pande, is now likely to meet Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi.
“We discussed various names, and finally Guruji (Shibu Soren) decided upon the name of Mahua Maji to be our Rajya Sabha nominee,” announced Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
Congress is an alliance partner of JMM in the state.
“It’s Jharkhand Mukti Morcha’s (JMM) decision. We have made our party high command aware of it. Our Jharkhand in-charge will come to Ranchi tomorrow, then we will tell what is our stand and what we will do,” Jharkhand Congress chief Rajesh Thakur said, commenting on the JMM decision to field its candidate for Rajya Sabha polls.
Twitter protests have surfaced in Congress over ticket distribution, including spokesman Pawan Khera and actress-turned-politician Ms Nagma.
In a list released on Monday, Congress announced a few names like P Chidambaram, Jairam Ramesh and Randeep Surjewala but dropped former well known Congress voices in the Upper House Ghulam Nabi
Azad and Anand Sharma.
The two are members of G-23 rebel groups. Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal had quit the Congress party recently and is now contesting as an Independent with the support of the Samajwadi Party.
