New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with his new Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese on Tuesday, May 25, on the sidelines of the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Tokyo.
Prime Minister Modi congratulated Mr Albanese on his election victory. The new Australian PM took charge only on Monday.
Taking to Twitter, the Australian Prime Minister wrote, “Warmly welcomed my meeting with @narendramodi for an engaging discussion on Australia and India’s full strategic and economic agenda, including on clean energy technology. Australia-India ties have never been closer.”

“Both the leaders reviewed the multi-faceted cooperation under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, including in trade and investment, defence manufacturing, renewable energy including green hydrogen, education, science and technology,” an MEA release said.
Both the Prime Ministers affirmed their desire to continue the “positive momentum” in the bilateral relationship, the release said.
The Prime Minister extended an invitation to the Australian PM to visit India at an early date.
Meanwhile, former Prime Minister of Japan Yoshihide Suga called on
Mr Modi.
They recalled their previous interactions, including their bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the first in-person Quad Leaders’ Summit in Washington D.C. in September 2021.
Mr Modi appreciated Mr Suga’s contribution to deepening and strengthening India-Japan relations.
The two leaders exchanged views on further strengthening the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership.
PM Modi invited Mr Suga to lead a delegation of Japanese MPs to India, the MEA stated.
