Sunil Jakhar gives a parting gift to Congress; exposes sycophants in the Congress

“Ghar ko sajane ka tasavur toh hae bahut…paheley yeh toh tai ho ghar ka bachae kaisey,” remarked
Congress leader Sunil Jakhar in his parting shot to the grand old party.

Former Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief and former MP, Sunil Jakhar, quit the party on Saturday, May 14, through a Facebook Live broadcast and in free and frank outbursts
lampooned the party leadership.

“It is my parting gift to the party. Good luck and goodbye Congress,” he said.

Notably, his announcement comes when the Congress top brass and office bearers are
participating in the three-day Chintan Shivir ‘brainstorming camp’ at Udaipur in Rajasthan.

Dwelling on the manner the Congress started discussing issues like agricultural policy and
India’s foreign policy, he said the Chintan Shivir of the party was turning into a “farce”.

“Instead of ‘Chintan Shivar’ it should have been ‘Chinta Shivar’ on how to save the party,” he remarked.

“Ghar ko sajane ka tasavur toh hae bahut…paheley yeh toh tai ho ghar ka bachae kaisey (To decorate
my house may be a much-desired wish, but first we have to decide ways and means to save the house – meaning the party),” Jakhar said.

In reference to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi’s speech on the first day that “exceptional situations need exceptional solutions”, he said on the contrary to what Sonia said the party’s Chintan Shivir on the first day was completing “mere formalities”.

“Today our party is facing existential crisis,” he said adding, “but now we are behaving as if running the country is our responsibility”.

It is true Jakhar was among the front-runners for the chief ministerial post after former chief minister Amarinder Singh resigned last year. But his chances were scuttled after the Rahul Gandhi-Priyanka duo adhered to party leader Ambika Soni’s advice that the Congress party should go with a Sikh face.

Announcing of Charanjit Singh Channi as Punjab chief minister had irked Jakhar further and he had declined to contest elections and also stayed away largely from any campaign works.

Jakhar made veiled attack on political limitation as exposed about herself by Priyanka Gandhi – who oversaw Congress party’s canpaign strategies in this year’s Uttar Pradesh elections.

“There should have been one committee to discuss in details why Congress suffered such humiliating defeats in UP,” Jakhar maintained.

“We had fielded candidates in over 390 constituencies out of 403. But Congress nominees even failed to get even 2000 votes in many places. You all underdstand that even panchayat members can manage 2000 to 4000 votes.

But this state of affairs of our leaders and top leadership. Yeh party ki duur-darsha hae,” he lamented.

He maintained Congress has lost ground in all seven northeastern states and also states like Uttarakhand and Goa.

“Why Harish Rawat was made in charge of Punjab when he had to contest and lead the party in Uttarakhand,” he said questioning Rahul Gandhi’s decision.
