In a rare honour for our freedom fighters and renaissance leaders, the Paramekkavu group will unfurl colourful parasols decorated with the pictures of leaders who led the national movement.

The pictures of Veer Savarkar, Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Raj Guru, Swami Vivekananda, Subrahmanya Bharati, Bharata Kesari Mannathu Padmanabhan etc. are featured on the ornamental parasols displayed at Chamayam expo. Former Rajya Sabha MP and BJP leader Suresh Gopi inaugurated the expo.

The parasols will be unfurled tomorrow in Kudamattom, an umbrella exchange during Thrissur Pooram, which has been organised by the Paramekkavu group and Thiruvambadi group. Kudamattam exchanges colourful and crafted umbrellas competitively at the top of the elephants. It is a major eye-catching event of the pooram. The special parasols are included to mark ‘Swatantrata Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ this year.

Meanwhile, Congress, CPM and other pro-Islamist political parties are crying foul over the decision of using the photo of Veer Savarkar.
