Guwahati: Assam Police on Friday nabbed six Islamic terrorists linked with Bangladesh-based radical Islamic group, Ansar Al-Islam, which is known to be the Bangladesh chapter of Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS). They were arrested from different parts of Barpeta district in lower Assam. Assam police arrested another five Jihadis belonging to the same terrorist organisation on March 5.
The arrested terrorists are Suleiman Ali (33), Jahidul Islam (39), Saddam Hussain (25), Rashidul Islam Haque (28), Musharaf Hussain (27) and Moqibul Hussain (24). The police seized 15 mobile handsets, 21 SIM cards and several documents written in Arabic language. The arrested jihadis were produced in the Barpeta district court. They were sent to police custody by the court.
“Organiser” had reported that radical Islamist groups linked with Bangladesh based terrorist networks have been trying to set up a base in Assam.
On March 5, police arrested another Islamic terrorist Saiful Islam alias Harun Rashid alias Mohammad Suman. He was a Bangladeshi citizen and hails from Narayanganj district of the neighbouring country. Top sources Assam Police said that Saiful Islam, was working as a teacher at Dhakaliapara Masjid in Barpeta district.
The arrest was made following an intelligence report shared by the Special Branch of Assam from Barpeta Road, Howly, Sarthebari areas of the district. Barpeta police sources said that arrested Bangladeshi national Saiful Islam alias Harun Rashid was the mastermind of the Jihadi network in Assam. Harun was assigned by his masters to spread the Islamist terrorist network in Assam.
