Nepal Army chief holds talks with DG Assam Rifles

New Delhi: Nepal Army chief Prabhuram Sharma on Tuesday, April 12, held talks with Director General of Assam Rifles Lt Gen Pradeep Chandran Nair at Kathmandu and discussed issues relating to bilateral interests and mutual cooperation.

“Lt Gen PC Nair, DG Assam Rifles, on a tour to Nepal, on April 12, interacted with the Chief of Army Staff of Nepal Army, Gen Prabhu Ram Sharma at Kathmandu, Nepal,” Assam Rifles said in a Twitter message.

Assam Rifles is India’s oldest paramilitary force that provides security to the northeastern region and has a diversified role ranging from security to providing welfare and developmental assistance to the people. It is also hailed as ‘Friends of the Hill people’.

During the meeting, the two officials discussed matters relating to bilateral interest and mutual cooperation, according to Nepal government sources.

“Nepal Army believes that such visits will further consolidate and deepen mutual relations existing between the armies of the two neighbouring countries,” they said.

Notably, the meeting came days after Nepal Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba visited India and held talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The two countries inaugurated a cross-border railway network, a power transmission line and launched India’s ‘RuPay payment’ card in Nepal after they vowed to significantly expand the bilateral ties in wide-ranging talks.

The two sides have also inked four pacts to expand cooperation in areas of railways and energy.

The Indo-Nepal ties are of high importance, Nepal PM Deuba said during his India visit.
