New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Monday, April 4, spoke on the telephone with Israeli counterpart Naftali Bennett and conveyed his best wishes to him for early recovery after his COVID-19 diagnosis.

The Prime Minister (Modi) also expressed his condolences for the loss of lives in the recent terrorist attacks in Israel.

The leaders had a detailed discussion on recent geopolitical developments, including the situation in Ukraine. They also reviewed ongoing bilateral cooperation initiatives, an MEA statement said.

The Prime Minister conveyed his eagerness to welcome Mr Bennett in India at an early date, it said.

The 50-year-old Israeli Prime Minister Bennett tested positive for COVID-19 last week. His scheduled visit to India from April 3 to 5 was deferred.

The two leaders had earlier met on the sidelines of COP 26 in Glasgow in November 2021. They also had their first telephonic conversation on August 16, 2021.

The visit by Mr Bennett would be his first to India in his capacity as Prime Minister.

This visit will coincide with the commemoration of 30 years of full diplomatic relations between India and Israel and 75 years of India’s independence.

India and Israel elevated their bilateral relationship to a strategic partnership during the historic visit of Prime Minister Modi to Israel in July 2017.
