Kreately Media’s Twitter Account Suspended, Netizens Demand Its Restoration

Netizens questioned Twitter why Kreately's account was suspended, which was running multiple campaigns to help the Hindu victims. 

The microblogging platform Twitter suspended the account of news portal Kreately on Monday (February 14). It did not provide any explanation for why did it suspend the account.

At the time its Twitter account got suspended, Kreately was publishing stories demanding justice for Rupesh Pandey, who was lynched by a Muslim mob in Jharkhand on February 5.

Muslim mob lynched Rupesh Pandey, 17, in Jharkhand's Hazaribagh. His parents registered an FIR naming 26 people who had lynched Rupesh.

Journalist Madhu Kishwar criticised Twitter's decision of suspending Kreately's account, saying, "Suspension of Kreately account is outrageous. Why is Twitter becoming so partisan and cracking down on those who stand against tyranny?"

Internet Yodha, one involved in running Kreately Media, said Kreately is the voice of dharma and not restoring its account would be a big loss. It is running multiple fundraising for Hindu victims.

One Twitter user, Uday Nimavat, posted, "Trying to stifle the voice of nationalism. This biased Twitter India won't suspend accounts which are doing propaganda and spreading fake news. But, If you raise your voice for Hindus, Twitter will show you the exit door. Kreately Media has been suspended for no reason." It demanded the restoration of Kreately's account.

The Hindu IT Cell posted, "If you raise your voice for Hindus, Twitter will show you the exit door. Kreately Media has been suspended for no reason. Harsh but true."

Criticising Twitter's decision of suspending Kreately's account, social activist Sanjeev Newar, who runs NGO Agniveer, said, "This is ridiculous Twitter India. Kreately Media works hard to support victims of gruesome crime. Without it, many families would have had no support after death of their prime bread earner. Twitter's behaviour seems like an attempt to influence UP elections."

Kreately Media, which runs the news and opinion website Kreately.in, describes itself as "We are the blend of the new and the timeless. We want to uphold our age-old tradition of "tark/vitark". Our professions might diversify us, yet it is our passion to promote, protect and prosper with freedom of expression that unites us all. We are stepping into a world where old rules no longer apply."

Just before it got suspended, Kreately was running a campaign to ensure justice for Lavanya, a 17-year-old girl, who was forced to commit suicide on January 9 for refusing to convert to Christianity. On Monday (February 14), the Supreme Court upheld the Tamil Nadu High Court decision of transferring the Lavanya suicide case to the CBI. The Tamil Nadu Government had challenged the TN High Court's decision of transferring the case to the CBI.
