Appreciating the Assam government's initiative Ratan wrote to chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, "I greatly appreciate and am deeply touched by the decision of the Government of Assam to bestow on me the Assam Baibhav award for the year 2021."

Guwahati: Industrialist, Philanthropist Ratan Rata to be honoured with the first-ever highest civilian award "Asom Baibhav" by the Assam government. The three highest civilian awards by the Assam government "Asom Baibhav" "Asom Saurav" and "Asom Gaurav" to be conferred on the distinguished recipients on Monday. Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi will present the awards in a programme to be held in Guwahati in presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other distinguished guests. 

Industrialist, Philanthropist Ratan Tata will be conferred Asom Baivab for his immense contribution in the field of cancer care in Assam and Northeast. It should be mentioned Tata Trust has set up 20 cancer care super speciality hospitals in Assam along with the state department.

However, Ratan Tata will not be able to attend the event personally due to his personal engagement. Appreciating the Assam government's initiative Ratan wrote to chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, "I greatly appreciate and am deeply touched by the decision of the Government of Assam to bestow on me the Assam Baibhav award for the year 2021."

"I have been an admirer of your personal commitment to the wellbeing of the Assamese people and it is, therefore, an exceptional honour to receive this award from you. Thank you for understanding my inability to personally receive the award at the function to be held in Guwahati on January 24th and for your willingness to present it to me at a later date in Mumbai. It would be a pleasure to meet you and our offices could work together to find a suitable date for such a meeting," Shri Ratan Tata said.

The Assam Saurav award will be conferred on Professor Kamalendu Deb Krori in the field of education, Dr Lakshmanan S in the field of public service, Professor Dipak Chand Jain in the field of education, Lovlina Borgohain in the field of sports, and Neel Pawan Baruah in the field of Art.

Meanwhile, the Assam Gaurav award is to be conferred on Munindra Nath Ngatey, health and public service, Manoj Kumar Basumatary, agriculture, Hemoprabha Chutia, art, Dharanidhar Boro, forest conservation, Dr Basanta Hazarika, health, Khorsing Terang, Namita Kalita, health, Kaushik Baruah, agriculture, Bobby Hazarika, women empowerment, Akash Jyoti Gogoi, Dr Asif Iqbal, health Kalpana Boro, women empowerment, and Bormita Momin, health.
