BSF-Assam police seized 2.60 lakhs YABA tablets in Nilam Bazar, heroin worth rupees 4 crores seized by BSF in Ratabari, Nagaon police arrested a transgender drug peddler with drugs. Two Bangladeshi Masum Billa, Seikh Bappi, were arrested by police.
Guwahati: In a major success in the war against drugs, Assam police seized two lakhs 60 thousand YABA tablets worth rupees 8 crores from Karimganj district. In a joint operation by BSF and Assam police in the Nilam Bazar area of the district on Saturday (November 27) night, many drugs were recovered buried in a house premise. In a confirmed tip-off from Border Frontier Intelligence, a joint team of Assam police and BSF raided the house of one Samsur Nur. Another drug mafia Abdul Basit fled from the spot, knowing the presence of the police. Karimganj police Additional Superintendent Pankaj Yadav said that this is one of the biggest YABA tablets hauls in the state in recent times. The arrested drugs mafia Samsur and Abdul are wanted drug mafia. Even police were shocked to see the huge quantity of contraband under their possession. Karimganj police have registered a case and are investigating further to root out the drug racket.
In another successful operation by BSF in the Ratabari area of Karimganj district, three drugs peddlers were arrested and drugs worth rupees 4 crores. BSF team on Saturday night intercepted a car coming from Mizoram side in the Nivia area. The team recovered 45 soapboxes containing heroin weighing around 605 grams. BSF apprehended three drug peddlers Jamil Ahmed of Karimganj, Juramthanga and Juram Maria of Mizoram. According to Ratabari police, this gang is involved in the transit of drugs from Mizoram to Assam. BSF handed over arrested drug peddlers, seized heroin and vehicle to Ratabari police.
In another operation by Assam police in Nagaon district in central Assam, a police team led by DSP Nagaon Dipti Mali apprehended three, including transgender drug peddlers from the Batadrava area. The police team recovered a small number of drugs and arrested Abdul Karim of Dhubri district, Saidul Islam and Rupali Akhtar of Nagaon district.
Meanwhile, Karimganj police on Saturday night held two Bangladeshi nationals from a night bus in the Saraibari area near the international border. The arrested persons were identified as Masum Billa and Seikh Bappi of the Gopalganj district in Bangladesh. Police sources said they entered India through the Akhaura border in Tripura, paying their Indian handlers. They were on their way to West Bengal via Guwahati.
