In yet another attempt to whitewash the anti-Hindu Moplah riots in 1921, Kerala Legislative Assembly Speaker M.B Rajesh has now compared Islamist bigot Variyamkunnath Haji to Indian freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. In order to capitalise on the Muslim vote bank, CPM has been trying to glorify the Moplah riots.

Many of the left-wing historians in the past had called these anti-Hindu riots an ‘agrarian revolt’ against the feudal landlords and the religious angle is totally omitted in the discourse.

M.B Rajesh made the controversial statement during the inaugural ceremony of the centenary celebration of the Moplah riots organised by the state library council, which is controlled by CPM. He also called Islamic fundamentalist ‘Variyamkunnath Haji’ a secular leader.

The Speaker’s comparison of Haji with Bhagat Singh has received widespread criticism. Bhagat Singh was a true patriot who gave his nation for the freedom of India, while Haji was a fanatic who wanted to create an Islamic State by killing Hindus.
