In a major development on Tuesday (August 17), the Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh allotted a 2000 square meter land in Deoband for the construction of Anti-Terror Squad Commando Centre.
The chief minister’s office made the announcement today (August 17).
“Uttar Pradesh Govt allots 2000 square meter land for construction of an Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) Commondo Centre in Deoband of Saharanpur district: CMO”, posted news agency ANI.
Also, the name of Saharanpur University has been changed to Shakambhari Devi University.
Darul Uloom Deoband, the birthplace of the Sunni Deobandi movement, was established by Muhammad Qasim Nanautavi and Fazlur Rahman Usmani in1866.
It is considered one of the most conservative seminaries of Islamic teaching. Taliban, which has recently taken over Afghanistan, follows the Deobandi school of thought.
Mullah Omar, the founder of Taliban, received a doctorate in Islamic studies from one of the branches of the Deoband.
