In a shocking revelation, the Sri Lankan drug peddlers who were arrested for transporting drugs and arms have told the investigative agency that drugs coming from Iran were kept hidden in Lakshadweep. This also shows the need for the administrative reforms initiated by the Lakshadweep administrator Praful Patel.
It is a known fact that the sea route between Iran and Sri Lanka & Pakistan and Sri Lanka are used extensively for the drug trade. These drugs and arms are also transported to India. Following the confession by these Sri Lankan drug peddlers, the investigative agencies had nabbed Sri Lankan natives Suresh and Sundara Raj from Angamaly in Kerala, who were controlling the drug trade in India. These people are also close to the sleeper cells of LTTE.
On March 18 after getting a tip-off about drug trafficking, the Indian coast guard had seized drugs worth Rs 3000 crore from a Sri Lankan Vessel off the Minicoy Islands in Lakshadweep.
