An MP and MLA Special Court have convicted Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MP Maloth Kavitha has pronounced 6-month simple imprisonment and Rs 10,000 in fine for a 2019 bribe case. She has been charged for bribing voters during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Telangana.

One of her associates, Ali, accepted in the court that he distributed money on behalf of the MP. Ali was named as the first accused and Kavitha as the second accused.

Kavitha, who was earlier with the Congress, won the Mahbabubad constituency in Telangana for the TRS. Opposition parties have welcomed her conviction.

“The flying squad caught Ali red-handed. During the trial, Ali admitted he had distributed money at her behest,’’ additional public prosecutor G Narayana said.

Judge Ch VRR Varaprasad, who convicted the two under Section 171-E (punishment for bribery) of the IPC, directed both the convicts to undergo six-month simple imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 each. The two were present in the court when the verdict was pronounced by the judge.
