The victim has also filed a petition in the Chandigarh court alleging his wife and her family members are threatening to convert his son to Islam.

A 36-year-old Sikh man in Chandigarh has petitioned the court to stop his wife and her relatives from converting his 9-year-old son to Islam.

Judge Rasveen Kaur has issued notice to the defendants for the next hearing on July 20.

Ravneet Singh (fake name), who hails from Amritsar, moved to Chandigarh in 2008 in search of a job. He started working as a sales executive in a showroom. His to-be-wife Nafeesa (fake name) was also working as a sales executive in the same showroom.

They got married in a gurdwara in November 2008. Nafeesa had proposed to Ravneet, but Ravneet had turned it down because they belonged to different religions. The marriage was solemnized when Nafeesa promised that religion would never be an issue post-marriage.

But soon after the marriage, Nafeesa and her family started pressurizing him to convert. Soon after marriage in 2008, Ravneet moved to Delhi with Nafeesa to avoid Nafeesa’s family.

In 2011, he returned to Amritsar and took up a job. But, again, Nafeesa’s family started torturing him for conversion.

He fled to Chandigarh in 2015. Nafeesa’s family followed him.

In August 2012, Nafeesa gave birth to a baby boy. Nafeesa’s family started pressurizing Ravneet to raise the baby boy, as per Islamic rituals.

In 2019, Nafeesa’s sister got married to a Brahmin and converted him to Islam. Nafeesa’s family started demanding that if he can convert, why couldn’t Ravneet.

On the night of May 30, Nafeesa’s family assaulted Ravneet.

He fled, but his son is with his wife’s family.
