As the women of Assam have a core competency in weaving, the department should conduct intense brainstorming for drafting a plan to transform it into a potent platform for the weavers, he added during a review meeting held at Janata Bhawan in Dispur.

Because over one lakh weavers of the State have a yarn bank passbook under which they are entitled to 4.5 kg yarn per month, Sarma stressed about supplying quality yarn to them and upgrading their skills.

In the presence of State handloom & textiles and sericulture minister UG Brahma, along with top responsible government officers, Sarma emphasized on reviving ARTFED and setting up display counters at all Assam Bhawans, other stalls in different cities of the country.

Sarma, in another meeting, reviewed the progress of the new State Assembly building coming up in the capital complex. Taking stock of the construction, Sarma asked PWD (building) officials to complete the work by December 2021.

In the presence of State assembly speaker Biswajit Daimary, deputy speaker Dr. Numal Momin, CM’s political secretary Jayanta Malla Baruah along with other top government officials, Sarma expressed hope that the winter assembly session would be conducted in the new building.
