State BJP chiefs picked up for Assam and Manipur

Guwahati: BJP President, JP Nadda announced the new presidents for Assam and Manipur.
Making a change of guards at the organizational level in the states of Assam and Manipur, BJP national President JP Nadda has appointed new state unit presidents. Bhabesh Kalita and Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi are assigned new party responsibilities.
Saffron legislator from Rongia assembly constituency in lower Assam and a soft-spoken politician, Kalita has been appointed as State BJP chief, who is replacing Ranjeet Kumar Dass, a cabinet minister in Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma led coalition government in Dispur.

Kalita, hailing from Sutarkuchi village under Kamrup district, is a law graduate and served as a minister in Sarbananda Sonowal’s cabinet in the last BJP led government of Assam. A follower of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh ideology, Kalita was poured with wishes from the party leaders and workers on the ground.
After winning the 2021 State Assembly elections, Sonowal was replaced by Sarma, and the gentlemen politician indicated that he would not be leaving for New Delhi anytime soon, sparking the speculation that he might be handed the job. Present central minister Rameswar Teli and, Parliamentarian Kamakhya Prasad Tasa were also projected for the post.
Meanwhile, an active party leader Sharda Devi, who joined the BJP in 1995, has been assigned to lead the saffron party in Manipur. The post was lying vacant following the death of professor Saikhom Tikendra Singh due to Covid-19 complications recently at Imphal hospital.
State chief minister N Biren Singh congratulated her for being appointed as the party chief of Manipur, which is going for assembly polls next year. Saffron workers in Myanmar bordering State express hope that the experienced lady could lead the party in the coming days.
