The abducted CoBRA commando Rakeshwar Singh Manhas was released today from the Naxal custody.
The Naxals had held him hostage after the gunfight with the security forces on April 3 on Sukma-Bijapur border.
Twenty two brave jawans were martyred and more than 30 were injured in the gunfight.
The senior officers, with the help of locals, were negotiating the commando’s release.
Social worker Dharampal Saini, Gondwana Samaj chief Gelam Boraiya and local journalists were present when the commando was released.
The top concern for the officers involved in the case was to ensure the safe release of Manhas.
Seven local journalists, who were part of the 11-member negotiating team, were working all time to ensure the safe release of the officer.
After the gunfight on April 3, the Union Home Minister cut short his visit to Assam and rushed to Chhattisgarh. He also went to the site of the attack in Bijapur.
