Pakistan Tuesday dialled its all-weather friend China for the Covid-19 vaccine. It is struggling hard to check the spread of the virus.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi called his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi and requested him to continue the supply of the vaccine.

China had earlier supplied 1.5 million doses of the vaccine and assured the supply of 0.5 million more doses.

The country is struggling with the third wave of the virus. Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi, both tested positive for the virus Saturday. Khan had taken the first shot of the vaccine Thursday.

It is barely procuring any vaccines and is largely dependent on donations, mostly from China.

The country has now allowed private firms to import the vaccine. More than 14000 Pakistani citizens have lost their lives to the virus so far.
