Kolkata: Actor Rudranil Ghosh has been fielded by BJP from Bhawanipore, Mamata Banerjee’s original constituency.

He will take on state Power Minister Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay.

“It is a matter of time…my victory is already decided. People of Bhawanipore were waiting for any BJP candidate, they know for long they have been betrayed. That is why she (Mamata Banerjee) has left Bhawanipore,” said a beaming Rudranil Ghosh.

The BJP list of candidates have the likes of Rahul Sinha from Habra while Mamata’s erstwhile second in command Mukul Roy has been fielded from Krishnanagar North, also being considered a safe seat as the saffron outfit had a lead of over 53,000 votes over the Trinamool rival in this segment in 2019 parliamentary polls.

However, the Krishnanagar Lok Sabha seat was retained by TMC nominee Mahua Moitra, the vocal lawmaker. Earlier this parliamentary seat was bagged by actor Tapas Paul (now deceased) in the 2009 and 2014 general elections.

Actress Srabanti Chattopadhyay will be the BJP nominee from Behala West. Exuding confidence, she said, “I hail from Behala and people know me there”.

She is pitted against Trinamool heavyweight and trusted aide of Mamata, Partha Chatterjee.

The BJP named its sitting Ranaghat MP Jagannath Sarkar from (Shantipur), MLAs Sabyasachi Dutta from Bidhannagar and Saikat Panja (Monteswar).

Joel Murmu is now a BJP candidate from Habibpur.

Former India footballer Kalyan Choubey has been fielded from Maniktola.

Among others, Biswajit Kundu, Saikat Panja, Jitendra Tiwari, Silbhadra Dutta and Arindam Bhattacharya, Tanushree Chakraborty, Parno Mitra, and Samik Bhattacharya have been fielded.

West Bengal BJP spokesman Samil Bhattacharya will be the party candidate from Rajarhat Gopalpur.

In Siliguri, BJP candidate will be Shankar Ghosh, a former CPI-M leader. Ghosh’s guru, senior Marxist Asok Bhattarcharjee is also contesting the polls and Trinamool nominee from this segment is Omprakash Mishra.
Legislator Paban Singh will be party candidate from Bhatpara.

Agnimitra Paul will be BJP nominee from Asansol South. He will take on actress Sayoni Ghosh of Trinamool.

BJP’s Bolpur constituency nominee will be Anirban Ganguly, the university town famous for Vishva Bharati, the university founded by Rabindranath Tagore.
