The Vice-Chancellor of Allahabad University, Sangeeta Srivastava has written a letter to the local DM requesting him to take some action against the Azan from the nearby mosque which disrupts everybody’s sleep. She said, “Every morning at around 5:30 a.m., the loud sound of the loudspeaker disrupts their sleep.” The Vice-Chancellor also complained, “Sleep is disrupted due to life and then there is no sleep later. This causes headaches throughout the day and affects their functioning as well.’

In her letter, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized that she was not against any sect, caste, or class. Referring to a proverb, she said, “Your freedom ends where my nose starts,” Prof. Sangeeta Srivastava also appealed that “it can be completed without a loudspeaker so that it does not affect another person’s routine. Even before Eid, the Sahari will be announced at 4 o’clock in the morning, which can also aggravate the problem.”
Prof Sangeeta Srivastava requested the DM to take action regarding her complaint. She also said that prompt action from the authorities ‘will restore some peace and tranquillity in the minds of all suffering from the loud azan’
Prof. Sangeeta Srivastava also pointed out that the Constitution of India envisages secularism and peaceful harmony for all sections. She also referred to the order of the Allahabad High Court (PIL No. 570 Office 2020). This letter has also been sent to the Commissioner, IG, and dig beside the DM.
