Prime Minister Modi speaks to French President Macron, pledges India?s support to France in fight against Islamic ?terrorism, extremism and radicalism?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Immanuel Macron on Monday discussed several issues from COVID to maritime security. During the talk, PM Modi reiterated “India’s full support to France in the fight against terrorism, extremism and radicalism” and conveyed his condolences for the terror attacks in the French cities of Paris, Conflans-Sainte-Honorine and Nice. Four people had lost their lives in these Islamist attacks in the aftermath of controversy arising over controversial cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.

After the conversation, PM Modi tweeted “Spoke with my friend @EmmanuelMacron on the challenges and opportunities presented by the post-COVID world. India stands by France in its fight against terrorism & extremism. The India-France partnership is a force for good in the world, including in the Indo-Pacific.”

PM Modi and President Macron discussed the affordability and accessibility of COVID-19 vaccines and economic recovery post the pandemic. They also discussed the Indo-Pacific region, maritime security and defence cooperation. Both nations are closely working together on the security front. The Indian govt release said, “The two leaders expressed satisfaction at the depth and strength that the India-France Strategic Partnership has acquired in recent years and agreed to continue working closely together in the post-COVID era.”

Climate Change and International Solar Alliance Project were also discussed in their conversation. Prime Minister Modi also expressed his wish to welcome President Macron in India after the normalisation of the public health situation.
