COVID-19 in 2020 has plunged global cultural and art industries to their worst recession. To be a beacon, the online exhibition, Taiwan Under COVID-19: United Through Art, introduces the works of 36 passionate Taiwanese artists across three generations. They aim at demonstrating their unreserved support and warm friendship for India through art in a digital world of beauty and hope.
Sponsored by the Ministry of Culture (Taiwan), this special exhibition is co-organised by the Cultural Division and the Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India, University of Delhi, Chinese Writers’ and Artists’ Association (Taiwan-based), and Prestige Vision Co., Ltd. We sincerely thank the University of Delhi for their great assistance in connecting Taiwan with India through art in the pandemic. The exhibition is open to 30th November, 2020.
Over 100 pieces of contemporary artwork by 36 Taiwanese artists and professors across three generations are displayed at the online exhibition. It encompasses oil painting, modern ink wash painting, mixed media, sculpture, digital art, new media art and installation art. It is expected that Indo-Taiwan cross-cultural collaborations such as this will benefit art communities to have more inspiring works in the future.
The Education Division, TECC has been working relentlessly since many years to encourage the Indo-Taiwan educational exchanges. With the help of this exhibition it also hopes to connect the Indian art community, the colleges of fine arts and related organisations to Taiwan’s art community, their artists and professors to inspire innovation and encourage more cooperation between the two nations in the future.
Taiwan is one of the major hubs for study in the fields of science and technology. 80 percent of Indian students studying in Taiwan in 2019 were from IT sector and Engineering. With the help of the Exhibition, the Education Division aims to encourage students from the fields of Arts, Humanities, Social science and Business consider Taiwan to pursue their further studies so that many more projects like this could be carried on in the future with participation from both the sides.
