Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday greeted people on the occasion of Valmiki Jayanti.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi tweeted, “Best wishes to all of you on Valmiki Jayanti. His ideas and thoughts based on social harmony, equality and justice will always inspire the countrymen.”

In his 17th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat 2.0’ on October 25 had said, “Maharishi Valmiki emphasized positive thinking-for him, he spirit of service and human dignity were of utmost importance. Maharishi Valmiki’s conduct, thoughts and ideals are the inspiration and guiding force for our resolve for a New India. We will always be grateful to Maharishi Valmiki for composing an epic like Ramayana to guide the future generations.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also greeted the citizens on the occasion of Valmiki Jayanti. “Maharishi Valmiki Ji described the life of Lord Sri Rama as the holy Ramayana. For ages, ‘Ramayana’ has inspired the whole world to walk on the path of truth and Dharma by showing the life, devotion, tenacity and struggle of Lord Rama,” Shah tweeted in Hindi.

“My humble tributes to the Adi Kavi Maharishi #Valmiki on his Jayanti today. He composed the great epic Ramayana and enlightened us about the divine life journey of #LordRama. The poet-saint’s philosophical teachings are eternally relevant. #valmikijayanti,” tweeted Vice President Shri M Venkaiah Naidu.

Maharishi Valmiki is the Adi Kavi or the first poet in Sanskrit language. Valmiki Jayanti is celebrated on the full moon night or Purnima of the Ashwin month. This day is also celebrated as Pragat Diwas. On this auspicious day, Hindus across the country worship Maharshi Valmiki by reciting verses of Ramayana at Valmiki temples across the country. The Ramayana, originally written by Valmiki, consists of 24,000 shlokas and seven cantos (ka??as).

One of the most famous temples dedicated to the sage is in Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai. The temple, which is 1,300 years old, was the place where Valmiki rested after writing Ramayana.

As per Drikpanchang, The Purnimatithi begins at 05:45 PM on October 30, 2020 (Friday) and ends at 08:18 PM on October 31, 2020.
