A plea has been moved in Delhi High Court seeking FIRs to be registered against Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Amantullah Khan, Manish Sisodia, Waris Pathan, Akbaruddin Owaisi, and Mehmood Pracha, reports LiveLaw.
An organisation called ‘Lawyers Voice’ has filed the petition which also seeks the High court’s direction to order a SIT probe into the inflammatory speeches made by the persons against whom the plea has been filed. Union of India, Delhi Government and Commissioner of Delhi Police, have been made Respondents to the petition. The petition has claimed that hate speeches were made by the leaders of the political parties such as Congress, AIMIM and Aam Aadmi Party which instigated the mobs in Delhi.
Senior Counsel Chetan Sharma representing Lawyers Voice told the court that “Delhi needs to come back to peace. It’s a very sensitive period”. He also questioned the timing of the violence. “Why did all this happen during President Trump’s visit. Who asked people to come to the streets? Arrest them!”, he asked. The Delhi HC was hearing the petition filed by anti-Modi activist Harsh Mander.
However, Lawyers Voice counsel Chetan Sharma said that the court should not pass any order without taking into consideration their reply. The Delhi HC has postponed the hearing to April 13th considering the plea by government which said that the ‘situation was not conducive’ for filing of FIRs.
