Ever since Narendra Modi’s government amended the provisions of the Article 370, many forces within and outside India have been trying to vitiate the atmosphere through fake news and misleading reporting. Many media outlets have been called out for its false reporting over the situation in Kashmir. One such channel that was caught propagating fake news was the Left-oriented news channel BBC Hindi. BBC Hindi is known for its anti-India and anti-Hindu content and propaganda.
In its recent report on the situation in Kashmir, BB Hindi had claimed that people have resorted to stone throwing and are protesting against the Central government’s decision over Article 370. BBC Hindi had used a old video of stone throwing and claimed that it was after the re-organisation of the state as Union Territory.
Legal Rights Observatory, a prominent organisation fighting false and misleading news against India, has filed a complaint against BBC Hindi with the National Security Advisor for indulging in false propaganda over the situation in Kashmir. In its complaint the LRO mentions that BBC Hindi and its reporter Amir Pirzada was seen “showing old video of stone pelting as latest tension post scraping of article 370 from Kashmir in which forces are chasing stone pelters”. LRO’s complaint requests the NSA to:
1) To take urgent cognizance of the complaint and to order IT department to order Twitter to block BBC Hindi twitter in India and
2) To order J & K police to lodge FIR against BBC Hindi and its reporter Amir Pirjada under relevant IPC sections related to trying to spread riots, spreading fake news and sections related to sedition along with IPC and Information Technology Act sections related to spreading rumors which might disturb social harmony and for inflammatory, fake reporting.
BBC Hindi is yet to react to the allegations and it has neither recalled its report. BBC and its India based content have on many occasions displayed blatant anti-India bias, targeted Indian security forces and Hindu leaders using misleading reports and videos. BBC in its report had called ‘Jai Shri Ram’ as a murder cry!Earlier, BBC was caught propagating dishonest and shoddy work as research on ‘fake news’ while the channel itself was caught spreading lies on numerous occasions.
