Shri Kashmirilal speaking at the function

Thiruvananthapuram: “The chemical fertilizers adversely affect not just the quality of agricultural produce but also the soil, animals and human beings, that will eventually lead to the total destruction of nature. So, the main objective of the Swadeshi movement is to promote organic farming,” said Shri Kashmirilal, national convenor of Swadeshi Jagaran Manch, while speaking at a meeting organised in Thiruvananthapuram.

Shri Kashmirilal further said organic farming is sustainable agricultural practice as far as the wellbeing of nature and water resources is concerned. He said the unnecessary farm loans waiver is not a panacea as it will eventually lead to fiscal indiscipline and adversely affect the economic stability of the state. Instead, agricultural subsidies and low-cost fertilisers and seeds should be made available to the farmers, he suggested.

“Modern, eco-friendly and sustainable farming methods should be introduced to our farmers for high crop yield. Small scale farmers should be equipped with facilities which allow them to sell their crops directly to the consumers, so that they will get a better price for the agricultural produce,” he said. He also demanded that the use of agricultural land for other purposes should be prohibited by law.

Former Mizoram Governor Shri Kummanam Rajasekharan inaugurated the function. Among the speakers were SJM Kerala state convenor Shri Ranjit Karthikeyan, former Kerala State Planning Board Chairman Dr KR Radhakrishnan and Bharatiya Vichara Kendram Academic Dean Dr KN Madhusoodhanan Pillai.
