Akhil Bharatiya Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram felicitates Scheduled Tribe MPs in New Delhi stirring them about the issues being faced by the STs across the country
New Delhi: Akhil Bharatiya Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram organised a function on July 2 to felicitate the newly elected Scheduled Tribe (ST) MPs and to stir them about some of the burning issues of the tribals across the country. Total 34 ST MPs, including Union Minister of Tribal Affairs Shri Arjun Munda, MoS for Tribal Affairs Smt Renuka Singh, MoS for Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Kiren Rijiju, MoS for Food Processing Industries Shri Rameshwar Teli and MoS for Steel Shri Fagan Singh Kulaste, attended the function.

Felicitating the MPs Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram president Shri Jagdevram Oraon said no society can be suppressed for long. He urged the ST MPs to work for the betterment of all the STs. “We need to ensure that deserving people get the benefits of government schemes and nobody feels neglected,” he said.

Kalyan Ashram joint general secretary Shri Vishnukant pointed out that out of 47 ST Lok Sabha seats 31 have gone to the BJP and two seats were won by BJP allies. “The massive mandate presents before us both the challenge and opportunity. We need to understand the aspirations of the STs and resolve them in an effective manner. Development must take place, but we should ensure that the STs also get their due share in it,” he said while mentioning the process of amendment in the Indian Forests Act, which began in March and response from the people were sought till June 8 ignoring the reality that the entire country was busy in general elections in those days. He also called upon the MPs to ensure that there should be no difference in our personal and public life. They can work on studying and resolving the STs issues by forming small groups among them.

Shri Arjun Munda said the Kalyan Ashram has reminded them of their duties. He said there are opportunities but there are challenges too. He said the Prime Minister Shri Modi is very serious to ensure fruits of development to all the citizens of the country.

RSS Uttar Kshetra Sanghachalak Dr Bajranglal Gupt said the people are not getting fruits of development because of the faulty model of development that we have adopted. “We can save the environment and forests only if we change the model of development. We need to follow the path, which is rooted in the Indian ethos. While discharging our responsibility as MP we should strengthen the conceptual framework, understand the policy framework and think about what we can contribute,” he said.

Shri Harsh Chauhan from Indore sensitised the MPs about the conspiracy hatched in the name of Indigenous People’s Day, which is observed on August 9. Many senior leaders of Kalyan Ashram including Shri Soumyajulu, organising secretary Shri Atul Jog, vice presidents Shri Kripa Prasad Singh and Smt Neeima Patte, BJP working
president Shri JP Nadda, secretary general (organisation) Shri Ramlal, ST Commission Chairman Nand Kumar Sai were also present.
