If we fail to recognise the Sabarimala verdict as a wake-up call, it won’t be wrong to say we are beyond redemption
A temple on the top of a hill in a vast tropical forest that finds mention in the great epics of India is today featured in the pages of national and international media. The reason is in no way connected to the true purpose of the establishment and maintenance of the temple, but for reasons, no devotee of the deity of the temple ever dreamed of. I invite you to that temple, the abode of Ayyappa.
I was startled by how a famous European media outlet described a particular tradition at the Sabarimala temple. It said that women considered to be of menstruating age were prohibited at the temple due to the belief that their presence would threaten Lord Ayyappa’s celibacy. This is circulated as fact, when anyone who has the slightest knowledge of the temple and its traditions knows that a sacred tradition has been deliberately misconstrued by the agency. If it were one stray report, we could have brushed it aside as ignorance of facts. But report after report, articles after articles repeated the same concocted plot in different words; not only by one media house but by almost all of them out there. This is why it is important for us to verify the historical perspective, not just about the temple or its traditions which everyone seem to be doing, but about the practice of misrepresenting Hindu traditions.
The first invaders arrived on horsebacks, then came those on ships. As someone who came to conquer and rule, they had little respect for the people who lived here, and viewed the multiculturalism that existed in Bharat as a threat to their aims.
They wanted everyone to surrender or submit their purported ‘superiority’. They were impatient to impose monoculturalism on the Dharma-abiding people here. They had to invent a new tool as Dharma kept on protecting those who stayed true to it. Those who crossed the desert and over the seas were not unfamiliar with the Trojan horse that brought a mighty empire to its downfall. To divide the various communities of the Hindus through strife, and thus bring about the downfall of the only remaining fortress of the Sanatana Dharma from within was their plan. With this in mind, they invented caste system, a distortion of the chaturvarnya laid down by the Dharma.
The tenets of Sanatana Dharma are the only hindrance to a scheme designed to bring the whole world to subservience. Therefore those who wanted to profit from the herd mentality historically hatched up to remove Dharma from the consciousness of people with the connivance of irrational fanatic religious groups who have little understanding of what Hindu Dharma is.
When the administrators of the temple themselves feel that defending what is considered sacred to the temple is not their duty, isn’t that a sign that something is rotten in the state of Denmark? A legion of distortions, portraying Dharmic living in very poor light, was unleashed on the Dharmaabiding Hindu population. A host of machineries right from the nursery to the death bed were successfully employed to achieve this deception.
The vocational education system that successfully existed here has been replaced by the so-called modern educational system that promised an egalitarian society, but millions of people are jobless. People have become so dependent on the external forces that many lack even the basic survival skills. From youth to old age, the seeds of distrust have been sown by those who want to destroy the Sanatana Dharma.
The then Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, in his judgment allowing entry of women between the ages of 10 and 50 into the temple, said that a woman is not inferior to a man and patriarchy cannot be permitted to trump over faith. The honourable Chief Justice seems to have been carried away by the impression that Sanatana Dharma is a Patriarchal institution. A mere glance into the fundamental principles of the Vedic and Tantric systems reveal that such an impression is the direct result of a prolonged distortion of the facts. But nobody seems to care.
Another honourable judge Justice Nariman said, in his judgment, women are equally entitled for religious practice, and dignity of the individual is an unwavering nature of fundamental rights. This particular reading stems from the impression that Sanatana Dharma denies women their fundamental rights and views them as lesser individuals. Isn’t this another misrepresentation of what the Vedic and Tantric systems advocate? Isn’t this another example of prolonged distortion of facts to undermine Dharma?
To treat women as children of a lesser God is to blink at the Constitution itself, read the honourable Justice Chandrachud in his judgment. There may be people treating women as inferior all over the world, but to superimpose that impression on to the Vedic and Tantric systems prescribed by the Sanatana Dharma is nothing short of an incorrect understanding with its roots in a very clever establishment that purposely distorts the precepts of the Sanatana Dharma.
The Travancore Devaswom Board that administers the day to day functions of the Sabarimala temple decided not to even seek a review of the verdict by the Supreme Court. When the administrators of the temple themselves feel that defending what is considered sacred to the temple is not their duty, isn’t that a sign that something is rotten in the state of Denmark?
None of the people or institutions mentioned above is foreigners or foreign agents. They are citizens of this nation who graduated from the prestigious academia and are serving or served some of the most revered offices of the nation, yet why do they all seem to believe that the precepts of Sanatana Dharma are denying the fundamental rights guaranteed by the constitution of a modern nation. This is why we focused on the historical perspective, the practice of misrepresenting Hindu traditions, allowing the readers to decide for themselves. The devious design of the invaders and enemies of the Sanatana Dharma seems to have worked; our own despise us.
If we fail to recognise the verdict by the Supreme Court as a wake-up call, and use this great moment in time to understand the true percepts of the Sanatana Dharma enshrined in the Vedic and Tantric traditions, it won’t be wrong to say we are beyond redemption. It is time to excise the tumour planted and watered by those who want Sanatana Dharma to be wiped off the face of the earth, and restore the Dharmarajya to her rightful glory.
