New Delhi: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on September 29 said the education should not confine to just teaching in the classrooms but there is great need to send the students in nearby neighbouring locality so that they could develop empathy on the hardships being faced by the poor people and their children. He also emphasised that for a person character is more important than knowledge as without character a knowledgeable person becomes more dangerous to society than a wild animal. He was speaking at a conference organised by Research for Resurgence Foundation (RFRF) in association with IGNOU, ICSSR, IGNCA, JNU, AICTE and SGT and attended by over 400 Vice Chancellors of Central Universities, State Universities, Private Universities, Directors of IITs and institutes of national importance.

Shri Modi said that rich or poor both have a common requirement to get good educators for their children. “The academic leaders are expected to develop strategies and designs to provide them to society. We see our youths are becoming CEOs in multi-national companies but it will be more pleasing to see great teachers who could produce 50 scientists,” said the Prime Minister.
HRD Minister Shri Prakash Javadekar asked the academicians to tap them at the fullest. “We are committed to ensure that money does not become hindrance for achieving the education for any student,” said Javadekar. Chairperson of RFRF Dr Sachchidanand Joshi said India has great literature and philosophy but Indian institutes are lagging behind in global competition which is a concern for all of us. This gap needs to bridged with dedicated efforts. Union Minster of State for Education Dr Satyapal Singh while quoting the Indic knowledge system said it was due to the great vision for education in our country that Bharat was world leader in all the fields—knowledge, valour and prosperity.
