To curb the turmoil in the Valley, the security forces prepared a blueprint to flush out the terrorists following which Operation All-Out was launched in the middle of 2017. The operation has proved to be a big success. Congratulating the security forces for this success, Director General of Police, Jammu & Kashmir, SP Vaid said, “The Operation All-Out will continue till we get over Pak sponsored cross-border terrorism”. Organiser Correspondent Nishant Kr Azad spoke to him on various aspects of the Operation. Excerpts:

Killing of over 200 terrorists in a year, is a tremendous success as far as ‘Operation All-Out’ is concerned. How do you rate this
achievement?
Operation All-Out is an achievement for security forces. Over 200 terrorists were killed in this year alone including almost all top commanders of different terrorist outfits.  What is encouraging is that parents particularly mothers are coming forward alongside field officers of J&K Police to bring back misguided youth in the mainstream to lead a respectable life. In this process we were able to wean 70 youth including budding sports talent from joining the terrorism.
To whom do you want to give credit for this
success?
The credit goes to each and every one who is out there day & night to ensure safe and secure J&K, most importantly people of the State. Also martyrs of all forces who paid supreme sacrifice for peace in J&K, including the police personnel of J&K Police, Army and CAPFs who are working day in and day out there on the ground.
We have lost over 70 jawans this year in this fight against terrorism. Is there any way that this number can be minimised?
Yes, we have lost our 70 brave jawans and officers including 31 J&K Police personnel, for protecting the integrity and sovereignty of the nation. Now coming to your question J&K Police have procured 550 vehicles, 18,100 Bullet Proof jackets, 23,000 Bullet Proof patkas to ensure safety of our jawans. Besides, all the plans have been put in place to minimise casualties.
How do you see the peace prospect in the year 2018?
As you know year 2017 was way better than 2016 and I’m sure that the coming year will be far better than 2017.
Any deadline for the ‘Operation All-out’?
As far as Operation All-Out is concerned it will continue till we get over cross border sponsored terrorism.
Everybody is hopeful that one day peace will return to the Valley. But when do you think it will happen?
Peace has already prevailed in the valley though some elements here and also across the border with vested
interests are making repeated unsuccessful attempts to disrupt the peace and order in the state but like past all their attempts are bound to fail.
How do you see the coordination of security agencies in the last 2 years?
There has been always tremendous coordination and synergy among all the security agencies in bringing peace and normalcy to the state on both fronts whether it is fight against terrorists or maintaining good public relations.
What are the efforts to regain confidence of the common people?
Instead of regaining confidence, the question should have been strengthening confidence. The people of J&K have always shown confidence in police, as I have already said parents are coming forward to co-operate J&K police to bring back misguided youth which itself is the great example of confidence on forces. To strengthen this confidence J&K police have created Police Community Partnership Groups at police station and police post level in every district of the state wherein meetings are being organised regularly to address their problems and issues through concerned authorities. Besides, J&K Police has been organising a number of sports events, cultural programmes, tours like Bharat Dharshan, educational tours in every district to channelise the energy of youth in the positive direction.
