The Nation remembers the struggle of Dr Ambedkar for social transformation on his birth anniversary and resolves to materialise his dreams of a harmonious society

New Delhi: The nation on April 14 remembered the work and struggle of Babasaheb BR Ambedkar on his 126th birth anniversary and pledged  to materialise his dreams of  discrimination-free society. Funcitons were held all over the country.
Speaking at a function organised at SMS Hospital in Jaipur on April 15, RSS Sahsarkaryavah Shri Bhagaiah said, Babasaheb Dr Ambedkar was a scholar like the Shankaracharya and he possessed sensitivity that of Swami Vivekananda. He was a social reformer par excellence. We need to build a
society where ‘discrimination and untouchability’ has no place. Retired IAS Shri BL Arya and BL Naval, Mahant Shri Anjan Goswami and Jaipur Prant Sanghachalak, Dr Ramesh Agrawal were also present.
At another function in Pali on April 14, senior Sangh functionary Shri Nandlal Joshi said, Dr Ambedkar played a key role in strengthening social harmony. He proved his intellect despite facing discrimination. It is need of the hour that his thinking is imbibed in a positive manner. There are reports of holding various activities by Sangh swayamsevaks in Haryana. Arogya Bharati organised a blood donation camp in Indri town. Ambedkar Sewa Samiti also organised a function at Harchandpur village.
In Chennai, commemorating the birth anniversary of Dr Ambedkar, Dr Hedgewar Smarak Samiti conferred Social Harmony Awards on the people who have been serving the society in various fields. Shri Chellappan, while presiding over the event, explained how Dr Ambedkar wanted to bring a change in the society. Educationist from Anna University Shri Elaya Perumal stressed the need to include the nationalist views of Dr Ambedkar in the education system.
Social Harmony Awards were
presented to Shri ‘TADA’ Periasamy of Nandanar Sevashrama Trust, Shri R Elango of Kuthampakkam Village in Poonamallee and Smt. R Nagabhushanam of Mangaiyarkarasi Annadhana Trust, Ennore. The Award carried a memento,  certificate and a cheque for Rs. 10,000 to each. A magazine ‘Kandeebam’ was also released.
In Patna, Jagjivan Ram Chair of the Department of Personnel Management and Industrial Relations in Patna University organised a 4-day International Seminar on the theme of “Aspirations and Challenges of New Generation Dalits in the light of Dr Ambedkar’s perspective” from April 5-8. The seminar focused on development, justice and dalits, idea of Dalit entrepreneurship, reservation, etc.
Dr Sanjay Paswan, former Central Minister, Professor and organising secretary of the Seminar said, “Debate should move beyond reservation
in education and employment in
government as opportunities in the government sector are also constantly shrinking. The next generation reforms should entail representation through protection in business, media,
judiciary, civil society, etc. Voice for reforms in reservation should come from within the community”.            n
